The Hub Is Open: A Warm, Welcoming Space for Riders, Carers, and Volunteers

Cold Control was proud to be part of something genuinely special recently, as we joined Broadlands RDA for the official opening of their new communal space, “The Hub”.
For those who may not know, Broadlands Riding for the Disabled Association provides life-changing experiences through horse riding and equine care for children and adults with disabilities. Their work goes far beyond riding lessons. It builds confidence, improves physical and mental wellbeing, and creates a strong sense of community for riders, carers, and volunteers alike.
“The Hub” is a perfect example of that community spirit in action.
Designed as a welcoming space for participants, carers and volunteers, what was once a dark, damp tack room has been transformed into a warm, practical and inviting environment. It now serves as a central point where people can gather, connect, and take a break in comfort. The new window also brings in plenty of natural light and offers a fantastic view out across the surrounding fields, something we were lucky enough to enjoy on the day.
This project came together through the support of East Hampshire District Council, who provided grant funding, alongside a group of volunteers and local businesses who generously gave their time, skills, and materials.
Rob Sanger of SA Electrics carried out the electrical work, while Nick Foster completed the plastered ceiling. Kevin and Jack from Howdens supported the project with the supply of kitchen cabinets and appliances, helping to make the space functional as well as welcoming.
Tony and Dan from Daniel Umlandt Bricklaying and Building Services opened up the room by cutting through the wall and installing a new window, supplied by Total Profiles. The transformation continued with Mike Frost, who prepared and fitted the new flooring, bringing the whole space together.
Outside, GJB Land Management prepared the area for a repurposed container, which was supplied at a heavily discounted rate by SOS and is now used to store the tack. Travis Perkins also stepped in, donating sand and a digger to help prepare the ground for the installation of electrical cabling.
Cold Control’s role was to supply and install the air conditioning system, ensuring the new Hub stays warm, dry, and comfortable all year round. It is a small part of the overall project, but one that helps make the space usable in all conditions.
The opening itself was a great moment for everyone involved. We were treated to coffee, tea and cake as part of the celebrations, and it was clear how much this new space means to the whole Broadlands community. All of the maintenance team and volunteers were rightly thanked for their ongoing hard work and dedication, and the ribbon was officially cut by Roland Richardson from East Hampshire District Council.
Projects like this highlight what can be achieved when local businesses and organisations come together with a shared goal. The result is more than just a refurbished room. It is a space that will support the incredible work Broadlands does and enhance the experience for everyone involved.
We are delighted to have played a part and look forward to seeing The Hub being enjoyed for many years to come.
