In a recent project, our team faced a unique challenge while installing air conditioning for a returning client who wanted to extend cooling throughout their entire home. Previously, we had installed a single unit in their office, and based on that positive experience, the client requested a solution for the rest of the house. However, due to the layout and location of the property, installing a traditional multi-split system was not feasible. Instead, we opted to install multiple single split units, which proved to be a more cost-effective and practical solution.
A multi-split system typically allows multiple indoor units to be connected to a single outdoor compressor, which can be ideal for certain homes. However, in this case, the home’s architecture and placement made it difficult to run the necessary piping and wiring for a multi-split system. As a result, we recommended installing several individual split systems, each with its own indoor and outdoor unit.
This approach offered several advantages. First, the cost of installing multiple split systems was lower than the cost of accommodating a multi-split system. Each room now has its own dedicated unit, giving the client greater flexibility in controlling the temperature in different areas of the home. Additionally, since each unit operates independently, the client can heat or cool specific rooms without needing to run the entire system, further enhancing energy efficiency.
When deciding between a split and multi-split system, you should consider things like:
The number of rooms you need to cool
The size and layout of your rooms
Whether you need to cool your entire home or just a part of it
How much space you have for outdoor compressors
How much wall space you have for wall-mounted units
