What is a heat pump?

A heat pump extracts heat energy from the air or ground and uses it to warm your home.

There are two main types of heat pump:

 

  • Air source heat pumps are the most popular option as they require little space and cost less to install.

  • Because of the land required, ground source heat pumps are generally better suited to larger sites.

Government grants available for heat pump installations

Once you've installed your air source heat pump, you can get paid for the heat your renewable system generates through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

A typical home using around 20,000kWh per annum of heating, meaning you could receive around £7,000 in payments over a 7-year period.
