UNIVERSITY

Requirement

The university encountered a problem with their refrigerated display wells which were being used to chill the salads in the canteen area. Catering Manager at the university, Nik, contacted their current maintenance supplier to get the issue resolved promptly. Checks were carried out, but the quotation to get the system repaired was very high. Their supplier got another team to investigate whether a repair or replacement was required, but a couple of months had passed and there had been no progress on getting the issue resolved. This was holding up the repair, thus impacting on customer experience and sales.

Unhappy with the lack of progress, Nik started researching alternative suppliers, and came across Cold Control.

Nik made contact to discuss the current status of their faulty refrigeration system.

Outcome

Firstly, Cold Control arranged for 2 engineers to visit the university to undertake a full site survey to diagnose the fault. It became apparent that there were multiple failures with the refrigeration system, not just a single component, so Cold Control devised a quotation of varied routes for the university to consider – either to repair or replace the system.

Cold Control advised that it would be more cost-effective to repair the system than it would to replace it. The basic structure of the salad counters were in good condition, hence it was decided that it would be suitable to keep the existing frame and replace all of the parts, including new pipework, evaporator coils, fans and condenser units.

The installation and commissioning of the system took place over the Easter break, as requested by Nik, to ensure minimal disruption to university studies.

With an additional compressor on the roof and new evaporator coils, the system is now more efficient and better suited to managing the demands of the service, especially during the hot summer months.

Feedback

“I decided to seek alternative quotations from other suppliers as the salad bar project was not moving forward and we needed to get it fixed as soon as possible, as it was impacting customer service and sales. We were fortunate enough to get a speedy response from Cold Control and I haven’t looked back since! They responded immediately with a resolution and had arranged for 2 engineers to attend site early the following morning for a site survey. A few days after the site survey, Cold Control popped over to explain the quotation and discussed with us the options available.

Once the tender process was completed, Cold Control were awarded the project and they notified me of when the engineers will be on site to start the work.

The engineers did a fantastic job. We were very impressed and grateful for the speed and efficiency of the works carried out. We will recommend Cold Control to others and will look to use Cold Control in the future. Thank you once again!”
