HM PRISON SERVICE

Requirement

With the prison population expected to grow between 500 – 1,000 inmates every year, HM Prison Service found themselves under extreme pressure to cope with the growing numbers of inmates requiring 3 meals a day. As such, having sufficient temperature-controlled storage areas in the various prisons across the UK was vital to keep ingredients, meat and fruit and veg fresh.

Outcome

In 2015, Cold Control successfully secured a contract with HM Prison Service to provide pre-planned and reactive maintenance services for 69 prisons across the UK.

With available government funding a huge purchasing factor for HM Prison Service, it was important that Cold Control treated each site individually, providing the most cost-effective maintenance solutions that suited that particular site’s budget and requirements.

In addition to the installation of new equipment, Cold Control also carry out bi-annual servicing to all 69 sites for their existing equipment, which includes general maintenance of the units to ensure optimum performance, checking of gas levels, oil levels and cleanliness.

Alongside the maintenance service that Cold Control provides, Cold Control’s maintenance team are on standby 24 hours a day for emergency breakdown and repairs, which covers their refrigeration equipment and air conditioned areas of the prison. Where system parts are deemed beyond repair, Cold Control are on hand to source and install replacements when required.

Feedback

“We’re extremely pleased with the service received by Cold Control and the quality of the installations. Whenever an issue arises, an engineer is on site as soon as they’ve been informed. We have already been recommending Cold Control to other suppliers and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them going forward.”
